By all means, post your resume with all of the big online job portals like Monster.com and Yahoo! Hotjobs, as well as any smaller local or regional ones where you live, but just be aware that those sites will only rarely yield job interviews for you.The best leads all come through personal networking. You need to make sure that your personal network: friends, family, neighbors, past co-workers, etc. are aware of what your skills are and the type of work you d like to get into. They can then point you toward potential employers who might have an interest in someone with your background.Meet with these employers for an informational interview -- don t go specifically asking for any openings (they ll figure out that s what you want anyway). Find out if that particular employer seems like a good fit for you, find out how others have been hired in there, find out how you can improve your resume to be more attractive to them (training? certification? volunteer experience?) and find out what other employers they d recommend that you try to talk with.This gives you face time with a prospective employer, generates new information and new leads and leaves open a new communication channel for you...all of those things will eventually translate into employment.
