How to say something not nice in a business letter? -

I m a consultant, and in a meeting with the CEO for a new contract job I met the employee I would have to work with. How do I say in my proposal that I would like the job, but I don t think I can work with their employee? The problem is that I would be hired to propose new office procedure changes, but this person snapped at every question I had. How do I say professionally that she won t take suggestions for changes well, won t admit that she might have made a mistake with what she was doing previously, and so it would be very difficult to work with her?

Chances are the employee sees you as a hatchet man looking for a reason to let them go.It s not your job to evaluate their employees, they ve already done that. It is your job to propose procedure enhancements. You have to get them to buy-in to the idea of change, make it seem like every idea was their idea. This way they will be a moving force behind the change. Just tell them that you are an outside observer looking for ways to make the department better and more efficient. I have never met an employee that didn t have at least 1 or 2 good ideas on how to streamline a process or remove obstacles to their daily work flows. The person snapping at you is taking attitude that they might be teaching their job to their replacement.. it s a natural push back that most people who do your type of work experience from time to time.

A couple of observations:- Consultants make recommendations and leave. Employees stay. Therefore, you should develop a thicker skin and offer your recommendations regardless with whom you work on the project.- The employee seems like a problem. How about privately talking with the employee to explain that you have a process:a) Step 1. Brainstorm. In this step, all ideas are entertained and itemized.b) Step 2. Evaluation. In this step, all ideas are critiqued. The pros and cons of each are itemized.c) Step 3. Recommendation. In this step, all critiqued ideas are ranked according to their relative merits.Tell the employee that no negative comments will be entertained until Step 2.

First I would get the job, then once contract is signed tell them your only stipulation is that you rather work with somebody else and explain the difference in personality and how it is not working out.
