I want to put on a womens seminar...help? -

I want to put on a self-help womens seminar in Oct 2010 and this would be my first one. I wanted to know how to go about getting sponsorships and what type of team should I put together to help me and any other recommendations.

Decide what you ll focus on. For instance, do you want to help women get ahead in business? There are Professional Women s Groups in many cities, and perhaps you could arrange a speaker from one of them. There s also SCORE (Service Core Of Retired Executives) which consists of, as the name says, retired executives, who might have a speaker you can use, or at least some literature and other resources. Perhaps you could have a health professional speak about women s health issues, not just breast cancer, but about how sometimes the warning signs of some diseases are different in men and women...and how until very recently, most of the medical testing was done exclusively on men.Contact your local college or university, and see if they have a Women s Studies department, or at least a few Women s Studies classes. Perhaps a professor would like to speak at your seminar.You could also try posting this question in Y!A in Gender and Women s Studies. It s in Social Studies.
