What kind of business licenses do you need to sell food at a farmers market? -

I was thinking of trying to make some extra money with my brother by making our own homecooked meals at our own stand at a local farmer s market? I have no idea where to start. Can anyone lead me in the right direction. Im sure it s more complicated than it seems considering we d be dealing with food. Just don t know what kind of licensing I d need.

In most states home cooked meals need to be made in a licensed kitchen. Ohio has cottage industry rules that allow many but by no means all foods to be made at home. Meats are not allowed as well as cream based foods like cream pies.Talk to the market manager about this. If the market has no management find another market. the market manager will be fully aware of the rules concerning home made foodsYour state dept of agriculture is another place to look for regulations (they control farmers market regulations)

Each state is different and each city in that state can be different too. Penalty is stiff, hot or prepared food can be dangerous so they keep check. Do yourself a favor can call th Department of Professional Services and they will gladly will give you every detail for state, city, county laws and ordinances. I just found out have to pull a permit for a garage sale.
