start with BBB in the geographical area they work from, dont give your SSN to them for whatever reason, I doubt you would make enough money for them to worry about taking taxes out, but start with the BBB, the Chamber of Commerce in the city they operate out of to start.
They are legitimate. They DO need your social security number to pay you. They need to report the money they pay you as a business expense to the IRS for their taxes and must have the social security number of people they pay. Also, if by any chance you make over a certain amount in a year (I can t remember how much) they need to send you and the IRS a form 1099.
