okay i ve never heard of a house swapping business. i visited that website but just skimmed though it. it looks like if people have additional property they can post it online to that website so people looking to vacation can rent your stuff. the nature would be like tourism. pretty good idea if you think about it. people need money these days and if you ve got the goods in the right place(s), you can make a little extra on the side. but of course leasing it for the long term would be ideal as it would yield a consistent return.

I agree with the other answerer that you should take to someone to ship it this time. A UPS store can pack it, address it/label it and all that. You just need to take the item, the address and some money to pay for shipping and their services. If you want to save some money you can pack and box it before you do.If you intend to do a lot of eBay selling in the future, though, look into how to ship yourself. From PayPal, you can set up accounts with both USPS and UPS. At both those carrier s websites, they offer a lot on info on how to box an item for shipping. Do a search of the eBay guides for tutorials on this, too. BTW, the general rule of thumb I use is that if it s small and no more than 1 lb., I ship it USPS-- either First Class or Priority and if it s heavier, I ship UPS. But you have to be very careful to keep it both well packed and small enough you re not charged extra for larger dimensions.

Deep in thought gave you the best answer. It will save you a lot of time though if you learn how to print the labels at home. FedEx Ground and USPS can be a lot less expensive than UPS so check that out. I ve had more items damaged by UPS than the other two.

I don t think all sites make money, (I m think craigslist). But blog sites like you mention probably make money by through advertising. If you can generate enough traffic to your site advertisers will pay a lot of money to advertise on these sites.

What s you business? What made you decide to get started with it? Is it your main source of income, or do you have a second job? Did you get a degree in business? I just want to hear some stories, because I ve always wanted to own or at least co-own a business.

I started at age 19 with an arcade game route. I started from the desire to eventually open a free standing arcade and because I had to pay additional taxes to the state of California, despite claiming zero and working three jobs and going to college. Took 3 years to turn a profit, and 4 years to figure out how to do it right. In the end, I was making 3k a month, cash, working 4 hours a week, and held a full time job as an engineer/supervisor. Sold it and put the money in the bank and used this as a down payment for a nice plot of land to build a dream home.I have also owned a pool hall, where I lost a ton of money. Ran a swimming pool cleaning route for a year also.Currently I own 4 hair salons, and am scouting locations for numbers 5 and 6. I just completed law school, and may start a law firm on the side. My degree is in engineering, and now law, and my love will always be working in a factory, but that probably will not happen again. Despite the fact I made where I worked a ton of money,I make a lousy employee. I have a big mouth.As for starting your own business, save a lot, and do not expect to draw a check for a long time. I currently make 300 a week. (after 4 years) Hourly this works out to well below minimum wage. I also am leveraged to the hilt to keep expanding. But I know when things turn around, and they always do, I will be in a good position. I spent most of my time building the business while maintaining a full time job. This is the only way to do it. I m against having partners, as one will always screw the other one (they both will, just a matter of time). If you want a partner, get married, or a dog. You ll learn more from doing than from school. They will teach theories and all that stuff, and stress the importance of a business plan (which I hate), but when it comes down to it, to get a loan requires the money to pay it back if your business fails. Everything else is a waste. Business is about relationships, reputation, determination, implementation. I work out of Starbucks (I hate coffee by the way) and make some contacts there. EBay item ended and payment has not been made and its been over 24 hours? -

It was clearly mentioned in the bid that if payment is not made within 24 hours of winning the bid, the item will be up for a second chance offer for the next highest bidder. The 24 hours are up and what are my options. What are my options to exercise the second chance offer? Can I deny the offer to the winner since the 24 hours are up. Once again, the item description CLEARLY mentioned that payment is due within 24 hours. I don t want my funds to be stuck for 7 days and then file a complaint and keep the whole thing hanging.

Raising the cost per rental is not an automatic must. I think that there are a few things that you could do. The first is to consider negotiating a discount/better pricing by holding meetings with multiple drycleaners. If your business is doing so much business that you are required to pay more than rent in cleaning fees then you should be doing a quantity sufficient to merit negotiations. Second, if you are really doing that much in dry cleaning you might consider opening up a drycleaning shop (either in your building if there is space) or elsewhere, preferably nearby. You would be able to get your dry cleaning done at a fraction of the cost and if you are able to manage a tuxedo shop you should be able to manage any other shop. The principles are the same. Just make sure you hire someone who knows what they are doing. Or third you could require the renter to get it cleaned and fine them the cost of cleaning if they don t (but I don t really like that last idea).

As a former bait shop owner, in northeast Texas, I can tell you that it is not really difficult to start up. Depending how big you want the shop to be, you won t need much space at all. One very important thing is, if you plan on selling LIVE bait(minnows, night crawlers, etc.), they MUST be kept cool or else they ll die before you can get a dozen sold. I had a small (12x8) room that was air conditioned( window unit) just for that purpose. The fishing tackle I sold at my shop was purchased from a wholesale supplier...all well known name brands. I did not sell fishing licenses because there was a lot of state government red tape to break through, cost vs profit was not there, and it just didn t make sense for me to sell them due to the fact that there was a state park just a mile away that sold them. How long am I liable after I shut down business as a sole proprietor? -

I��ve been a specialty trade contractor for 5 years, working on new homes. Now that the market for new homes is gone I��m thinking of shutting down and finding work in another field. I��m wondering if I��m still liable for the work I��ve done even after I��ve closed down my business and if so for how long. If I am still liable should I keep my business liability insurance? What is the best way for me to shut down in this scenario?

Realistically you re liable for any work you did for long enough that it could no longer be considered a defect. It could easily be more than 10 years depending on what the construction was. If you did foundation work, it s obviously going to be for a long time. If it is something that typically needs maintenance every few years, then for a much shorter period of time.I can t give a good answer on this one except incorporate yourself as an LLC or S-Corp even if it s just you doing the work, if you go into business again.

Try Interlink. I ve just switched to them from TNT because they offer decent rates on their bags. They do an up to 1kg bag rate and an up to 5kg bag rate. I estimate you may be looking somewhere in the region of ��6(ish - so don t hold me to that) depending upon your usage. Their software is really easy to use making booking collections and tracking parcels quite easy. Don t know if this is up your street but I hope it helps.

You are the manager? Amazing. You are going to get yoru company sued sooner rather then later.No, you can not change the locks, nor can you steal the money within them. These machines belong to a third party.You need to check their contracts, you can demand they be removed once the contract has expired.

I think it s funny that a top contributor would belittle someone for asking an honest question.If you haven t seen a delivery in 6 months, there s a good chance that the contract will be expired. It s actually common for the contracts on vending machines from 3rd party companies to lapse for years. Now, there should be a label or identification plate somewhere on the vending machine that will tell you which vending company owns it. If there aren t, I would double check with the one vendor who did pick up their machine as they will probably be familiar with their competitors and could point you in the right direction. Due to the current economy there are quite a few vending companies going out of business. They usually sell their routes/machines to larger companies, and sometimes in this process there are machines that are forgotten. If this is the case, there s a good chance that no one knows/remembers that your machines are there and would be more than happy to service them again once you remind them. If all else fails you could contact another vending company and tell them you d be happy to have them place new machines in your location if only they could remove the ones that are there.

So I had someone file a case against me. We agreed upon a return of the item I would give a refund once I got the item.The woman then turns the case over to Ebay AFTER we came to an agreement.Ebay agrees in my favor stating - Buyer will not get refund.Case closed the 7th.Today I get a package in the mail. recognize the address thought it was maybe something I ordered for Christmas.I open it up it the item the woman had bought from me on Ebay. She had shipped it on Dec. 9th after Ebay clearly told her no refund.So I am unsure what to do.Ebay told me Buyer will not get refund I don t think I can refuse delivery now since it is open.To ship it back to her would cost me only about $2 or so first class with DC.I contacted Ebay about the closed case stating how she returned it after the case was closed.Any ideas?Normally I would refund the moment I got the item but Ebay told me no refund.

Just tell her to pay for shipping if she wants the item back, unless you morally feel the need to pay for further shipping. You are anyway not bound to refund her.
