Do we pay vendor for giving an estimate (no work done)? -

We have a small business. We had to do a minor update to our website, submitted a request for this to our site hosting company. They quoted $90. Then they said it will actually take 10 hours for $1000 total ( as it was a 5 minute work, I found out it would take this long for the developer to LEARN how to do it. There was no guarantee that she would be able to figure it out anyway, and the update had to be done at once. We found somebody else to do the update (it really took 5 minutes).Do we have to pay the $90 to the hosting company for the time it took them to give us an outrageous quote? It doesn t seem fair as no work was done.I want to see what you all think before I start fighting it.

Some companies give free estimates, and some don t. Most of those who don t, deduct the cost of estimate if the job is actually done. It is always a good idea to find out if there is any charge before getting the estimate. $90 might seem outrageous for the 5 minutes spent on giving the estimate, but they may be able to fight it, depending upon their policy with regard to estimates.

I can see no possible reason you should be required to or expected to by the company. A quote is supposed to be for the possibility of generating business and not a business transaction in itself, unless specifically stated beforehand. Meaning that unless they stated before giving you a quote that a quote would cost you $90 (which it doesn t sound like they did), then they have no grounds to charge you.

It takes alot more work than you may think to give an estimate for a software job. How does the change impact other parts of the software? How will it impact any custom changes to your application? They have to construct sample screens and logic to construct a design document. This all takes time. Now, they should have told you that there will be a charge upfront, if they did not, then i would protest. Else, there is a lot to giving an estimate. I was the VP of a software company. Good luck.

I went and had my truck wrapped with vinyl for my new tile business. I also had the same company make me 1,000 business cards, so they had all my info. Then without my permission the company went and purchased the domain name that matched my company, made a generic www.***************.com website using my company s name to fill in the stars; and placed my license #, address, contact info and such on the page. Now they are trying to tell me I owe them $500 for the website they created, stealing my company name. Is that legal?I feel that I m being completely taken advantage of at this point. What can I do? yes it s legal for them to purchase the webisite and sell it back to you..it s an ****** move, but it s legal. also check any fine print that may have allowed them to do that.and you can take legal action if they refuse to remove your personal info.. There are cases involving squatters that have created domaines with big company names and basically held them for ransom. I don t think what they are doing is illegal until they try to use it for themselves or damage your credit in some way for not buying their website design work. It is simply a bad sales tactic. Take for example an insurance agent... He/she can work up an attractive life insurance policy for you but that doesn t mean you have to buy it. I m sure an attorney would be happy to charge you a bundle when you yourself can simply tell them to **** off.

You might be better off letting an experienced eBay seller sell it for you. They normally take a percentage of somewhere from 20% to 30%. If it is not that profitable a business it is not worth opening an account for it. As you rightly pointed out it does cost monthly to service a business account. The best thing to do is to keep a ledger that way you can log in money that comes in and goes out on the business. That will let you know where your business funds are. I think you should have at least the word web or the word design in your company name. I totally agree because, especially for web design, essential to a successful logo, web page, etc is not making the user/customer think too much. So having at least one word in there related to what you do I think would be a good idea . You can play with the other words all you want. If you don t want web or design , choose at least one closely related word like site page etc.

I would strongly recommend that you consider what search engines are looking for. The use of the keyword design in your url is going to be important. You need to send your resume out to real jobs you are qualified to do. In your cover letter you need to state that you wish to work remotely, from your home office. LOTS of companies, especially in CA operate this way. They usually provide transportation for you to come in for an interview and for you to attend company meetings a few times a year, but otherwise everything is done online.

There aren t a lot of them and they all get way more applicants than they have jobs available, so even when you find one it is tough to get the job. how many jobs are there available in singing and acting versus the number of jobs in law, in finance and in business.Your question is like a young child saying I don t need to go to school, I m going to be in the NBA and make millions . If you want to chance your future on a low odds roll of the dice feel free to pursue singing and acting. I suggest you do both. Go to school and see if you can get jobs singing and acting. Take drama classes, appear in plays, sing for a band, etc. If you get discovered and make it , all the better that you have an education to back you up. Look at Nicholas Cage and the millions he lost because he had to trust someone else to make important decisions for him, because he wasn t smart enough to make them for himself.Knowledge will always be power.

Both are tough occupations and diametrically opposed in levels of satisfaction. What will leave you the most satisfied and fulfilled? A lot of people get into occupations just to make money but aren t happy and end up regretting not giving their true passion a try. I am one of those that worked as a legal assistant for years but didn t follow my passion of music and although I regret it, I have also come to terms with it and found that I did in fact love working in law. If I were you I would talk to professionals or teachers in both fields to give you food for thought.

HI, My biz is located in Belize and I ve been looking for expanding my biz online by adding EBay and PayPal to my website. I just found out that PayPal does not do transfers to banks in Belize which pretty much limits my possibilities. I m looking for a PayPal partner or alternative that A) allows me to use it, and B) that works with my biz here locally as well. You might want to ask a US business to act as your affiliate, to take PayPal payments for you. A US PayPal business account, with an EIN, and preferably with the Paypal PayFlow Pro option, is the best. The Canada PayFlow Pro option can take credit card payments, not direct PayPal payments.

Can a bank charge me money at their branch to cash a check to get MY money? -

Bank of America charges $6 to cash a business check. In my opinion, they have my money. It s mine and I have every right to have it. I m not asking them to transfer funds to my account, nor am I asking them to go out of their way to get the money to me. I am taking the check to them, all they have to do is punch a couple buttons on the computer, see that there is money in the account and hand me some cash that they have in the drawer right next to the teller.

Congress has passed legislature that allows banks to basically do whatever they want to us. They charge you for any little thing, got to get back all that money that they ve lost. Thru their greed, they lost money. Now they ve got to get us to pay it back.

Yeah unless you ahve an account with them most banks will charge you a small procesisng fee, its actually cheaper to go to walmart (they charge 3$ a check) if you don t have a bank account anywhere.If you have an account with them and they are still doing it I would suggest another bank

yes i am a teller at a community bank we charge for hardly anything the only thing that we require is that you are a customer so to answer your question yes they can and yes it is stupid i suggest to deposit your money then go to atm and draw it out .....no charge ..... unless they charge for that too however chosing another bank would be a good option as well

If you don t have an account with them then they can and will charge you to use their bank. They are there to service their account holders not every Tom, Dick and Harry that comes along and wants to cash a check.

Yes, it sucks but they can do it. Read your account agreement.
