I m entering year five of a small business I ve started. Gross sales $250K in 2009, net cash flow about $75K. Provable top 5 in the market. Startup plan was to sell after five years and I m itching to move on to the next project. I m an entrepreneur, not a manager, and I m ready to start planning my exit strategy. There are plenty of people who want to list the business, but how do I find the one who will maximize the value to me without leaving me personally exposed if the business fails to thrive under the new management? What questions do I need ask potential brokers to help me find the one ? Please don t take this as an opportunity to solicit or to make specific recommendations of brokers.

at the moment i write everything into a ledger i know its old fashioned but it has worked for our business and me but now i need to put a real effort into these books so what is going to be quick and easy for me to use .( we are not vat registered)

I still use written ledgers and we are quite a large, vat registered company. I find it a lot easier to follow and easier to find any discrepancies.The only alternative that I would consider is Sage - but you would need some training for that.

If you re good with Excel, you can set up spreadsheets that work well. I ve done this for our companies for many years and we re VAT registered. I ve set them up in such a way that the VAT figures are easy to pick off at the end of the quarter.I know you re not VAT registered, I m just saying that you can do quite a lot with a spreadsheet rather than going into a software package that may or may not do what you want. If you ve worked with ledgers, you know what s needed from the spreadsheets. It s easy to put in a checking column to point up any discrepancies in your data entries.Talk with your accountant and ask what they d recommend. We just give ours the spreadsheets at the end of the financial year and they do the TPL and balance sheet from them.Good luck!

Quickbooks is fine but my accountant uses Peachtree Acounting software. Most all the CPA s she knows use it over Quickbooks. Sounds like you work for a crappy company. An employer can ask you to work as long as they feel, but they are required to increase your pay if you work more than 40 a week. You can deny the overtime since it was not what you had signed up for, but don t expect your manager to do you any favors afterwards.You are allowed one break a day, and that is lunch. Clearly bathroom privileges don t apply, take them as needed. If you need to get up and walk around or smoke a cigarette for 5 minutes, you will have to clear it with you manager.Lastly, if you are using company vacation time or paid time off, you have to clear the dates with your manager ahead of time. If you went ahead and bought tickets and then told him a few days before you left, that could be a problem. If you give your employer 2 weeks of notice before vacation leave, they shouldn t deny you unless everyone else in your office decided to request the same days off.

I took several tests online and have a 95% accuracy rate with 47 wpm. If this is your profession or if you re an employer of such is this sufficient? If not, what should my goal be? Totally depends on how much typing is required. Many receptionists only answer the phone, so typing speed is secondary to communication skills and multitasking. Alternately if your primary job is typing, you should be able to do it well. 47 isn t bad and I imagine that you could easily be at 60 or more after a few weeks of typing.ANyway, it just depends on the exact job.

Every job I had which tested typing speed demanded 60 wpm.However, being able to compose a good letter, typed at whatever speed I wanted, or being able to correct the spelling and grammar of the letter s writer so it went out perfect, counted a lot more heavily than typing speed once I had the job.Still, I suspect you probably ought to aim for 60.
