Can I change locks on vending machines in office? -

I just took over as operations manager of a staffing office. There are several candy and soda vending machines that haven t been serviced (according to one employee here) in over 6 months. I attempted to contact the vendors and one did pick up the machine, but the others no response or no good contact info. Can I change the locks and keep them but retain the money? What can I do legally to do this or to get these machines removed?

You are the manager? Amazing. You are going to get yoru company sued sooner rather then later.No, you can not change the locks, nor can you steal the money within them. These machines belong to a third party.You need to check their contracts, you can demand they be removed once the contract has expired.

I think it s funny that a top contributor would belittle someone for asking an honest question.If you haven t seen a delivery in 6 months, there s a good chance that the contract will be expired. It s actually common for the contracts on vending machines from 3rd party companies to lapse for years. Now, there should be a label or identification plate somewhere on the vending machine that will tell you which vending company owns it. If there aren t, I would double check with the one vendor who did pick up their machine as they will probably be familiar with their competitors and could point you in the right direction. Due to the current economy there are quite a few vending companies going out of business. They usually sell their routes/machines to larger companies, and sometimes in this process there are machines that are forgotten. If this is the case, there s a good chance that no one knows/remembers that your machines are there and would be more than happy to service them again once you remind them. If all else fails you could contact another vending company and tell them you d be happy to have them place new machines in your location if only they could remove the ones that are there.

Why is eBay insisting that I cant charge postage on some maps Im selling? -

Ebay made postage free on certain items, DVDs/CDs and certain books all had there postage costs capped to a fixed rate or to be free. Most people now add the cost of postage to the item price, instead of starting at 99p you start at ��2.50, 99p for the item ��1.50 for postage etc. They did it to stop people selling at really low prices but overcharging on postage. You see 1p listings but postage is ��14.99 for a book that would only cost ��2.00 to post, ebay lost money this way. They didn t include postage costs in the final valuation fees, so people selling at 1p weren t paying anything for there listings. We all know ebay hate losing money.

I don;t know where you are from but they have capped the postage limit on items because of excessive charges. People were charging $20 USD for shipping a CD etc.... it was getting out of hand. E-mail the customer service and see what they say, maybe you will have to list the price to include the postage or put the postage in a handling fee.

The next day I received a reply from them saying that they didn t mean to buy the item, that they were sorry for the inconvenience. I don t know whether they re at it, or if they re just a bit daft, but now I just want to be able to relist the item and obviously get my fees credited. I want to be able to close the case, but if I state that we ve agreed not to complete the transaction, I would have to rely on the buyer agreeing (which I don t know if they ll do because they either don t have a clue, or they re just at it).What s the best way of dealing with this? Should I just leave the case opened for 7 days, and that way I know I ll get my FVF back?

There s a few different software suites that are free that will do exactly what you want. Your best bet is probably to search for: open source alternative for quick books, in your favorite search engine. I saw on ebay two limos for sale for 20K (10K each). Yes it is realistic but you just need to be aware of any competition in your area. Limos are still doing ok despite the economy at the moment but you may need to consider that in the future, even then if you can cater for other work like business, weddings, funerals you should be fine. Choose the limo colour carefully though.

You can do one of three things. You can see if your mom, pop, friend, or significant other will ship it for you, you can simply let your potential buyers know that shipments will be made on Saturdays only, or you can simply fill a form on usps.com to have the postal man/lady pick the package(s) up directly from your home when they come to drop the mail off. The form even allows you to leave the postal person a note. In the note you can let them know where the package(s) will be left. I.e. porch uner chair, on the side of the house, or in theyo hallway. Yep, if you ship priority mail and buy the postage through paypal you just print out the shipping label and stick it on the package, then there is a way to make arrangements right online to have the package picked up at your doorstep. you can ship as many packages as you want, as long as one of them is priority mail. of course it they fit in your mailbox, you could just put them in there and raise the flag. You do of course need a postal scale if you are going to ship this way. you can buy nice digital postal scales on e-bay too. at the time I bought mine it was only about $20

The best thing to do would be to sign up for an affiliate account on Amazon. Then you can post affiliate links on the web. Don t do it on yahoo though. What I would do is find something to sell from Amazon, say a phone cover. Then I would write a review article about it on a site like Snipsly.com. People search for phone accessories. They read your article. Click on the affiliate link, buy the product. You get paid. But it s not quite as easy at it sounds. The cash wouldn t be flowing hardcore unless you had a lot of traffic.

Would I just be wasting my time to try to start this as a side business? -

I have wanted to try to start some sort of side business for many years.I finally was thinking of starting a business in which I would rent out a small hall and do story readings.There are so many stories in public domain, I would have plenty of material.I wasn t planning to just run out and do this. I would have to take the time to build up a following.One of the ways I was planning to do this is by building up a following and doing free reading for public libraries.When I mentioned what I was planning to do to a few of my friends.They all felt I would not get anyone to come and would just be wasting my time.

Gosh, R14, I think it may be a long shot. I wonder about the demand like your friends do ;-)I think you have the right idea in starting small. The library is a good idea. How would you get the word out? You could put up fliers on free bulletin boards and maybe have the library promote your services. Perhaps they could promote it as a service for busy moms who need a few minutes away from their kids while they re using the library computer, picking out books, etcetera.Another thought might be to provide this service at churches so the kids are occupied by your story reading while the parents are attending church.If your business takes off, these and similar approaches would be good ways to build a following. If it doesn t work out, you won t have invested a lot of money in finding out it s not viable - just a bit of your time.It s an interesting concept. I d be interested in hearing how it turns out. Look for places that a lot of foot traffic of the kind of people you want to target.Moreover, look to be next to, or in close to...areas that have say, food store..and you have clothing store....or your have hair salon, and you are next to clothing store...And the food store is on the other side...Then find out how much the product cost;Then find out how much your rent might be.Add this up, and add some for electricity..etc.Then you get the gross number, and divide this into 30 days..then you have an abstraction...( hypothetical number) of what your starting fees will be....you have not sold anything yet, you are just starting to get an idea of costs.______________________________________��Then divide the 30 day gross into days....in summary, you have now the daily cost (gross)Then you add in the labor rate..and workers compensation, federal taxes on employers for employees, and state disabilty, and state tax, and social security..in other words this topis labor burden is around, generally 40% of your labor rate.In other words, in nice round numbers...if you pay someone $10. per hour...your actual costs will be $14.00 per hour.Your store will be open for 12 hours per day = $168. for labor for one day.Say your lease is 50. per day, your electrical is $5.00 per day...so your rough daily cost labor and the rent/lease..etc. is $223. per day.Times the daily of $223 times 30 days = $ 6,690.So, you need to see what your product costs at the whole sale level..and you look at the price range your competors are charging...say they buy shoes for 10. and sell for 15.This is 5.00 per sale...you would need to sell 44.6 pairs of shoes per day...223. divided by 5.00=44.6 units. ( To break even.) You would need to sell 1,338 units per mo. to break even...If you want to get real scientific...you take your floor space...say 1,000 feet...and divide that by 1,338 units..in other words...each foot of floor space would need to make $1.30 per month...to break even.In summary, I do not know what you are going to sell, but look at what other busness is doing...the sales..the floor space..what they would need to sell per day..Then you have a hypothetical situation to work with...then add something into your equation for unforeseen events..like paying someone who you fired unemployment for a year....is this fun or what?I have a business, I work by myself sometimes.My truck, monthly payment, insurance, and advertising uis all added up for 30 days...then divided into 1 day, so I know what I need to make each day...then for that one day, I add in what my materials will costs...say 100. for materials..and 75. for the truck, etc..This is 175 for the day to breal even..so I am trying to make 500 that day....thus I charge 675. for the job..for that one day..you get the idea..30 days...30 days is something like I dont work for 5 days that mo.So, I add up the costs for 30 days, and divide this into 25 days..so, I know what each day cost..to start the whole thing over agian...maybe I dont work for 25 days...and I see a job that I can charge 15,000..i then divide 15,000 into 30n days -the costs, this yeilds my daily profit...You can go crazy doing this........______________________________________��

It s funny I found this post. Me and my wife were looking into things like this now. I bought a Amazon parrot many years ago from a parrot place. After going from pet store to pet store trying to find a bird with no luck. I found a breeder and was put on a waiting list. I waited and waited -no luck Then I ran across a parrot place and in a very short time he had the bird I wanted. My wife is a dog person and was looking into a dog franchise. It s three times the money and you have to pay them a royalty fee. About two weeks ago I told her to call the Parrot Place for info. We both decide to go this route. Reasons are when I was looking for a bird at the pet store I was dealing with a 16 year old kid with no knowledge whatsoever. The two stores are now closed, the breeder is no longer around but the Parrot Place and its affiliates are still in business
