Ended up putting wrong shingles on which didn t match the house. He agreed to paint the house to match the shingles. Roof has lumps and a leak in driving rain. He claims that when he took off the old roof, he found that he needed double shingles, which he didn t estimate for. Now he s threatening legal action for balance that he thinks I owe him ($1650). Do I have any case if I were to get a lawyer and sue him?

When they are found the contractor should come to you and discuss them right away before he proceeds. Were your existing shingles discontinued? Was he picking the color as close as possible to your existing? Lumps and leaks, you might have to get a professional roofing contractor to give you an estimate to correct the problem. If all this is under $5000.00 in most states you can go through small claims court, no attorneys. Renting retail space...slumlord!? -

I have rented my photography studio space from a man for about 3 years. It was a gross building when i rented it, but after putting about 5K into it, it s a nice place. You have to put it in writing. Send your landlord a letter (NOT email) stating the problems and that you expect to have them fixed within a reasonable amount of time (which is up to a month). It s against the law for your landlord to not fix something that s causing private nuisance and is so bad that it s against health code and building code. If not, take it to court. Most commercial tenancy cases in court do not require lawyers of any kind, just a small $100 or so processing fee for court. You will get to present your case, slumlord will be required to appear, etc. Be sure to have pictures to show the court. If you were selling the cake pans or overlays of the images then that would be a different story but just showing and selling the cakes should be fine. First, I am glad I don t bid on your site. I have many 100s of bids in my record and not one other seller has ever demanded payment within 24 hours. Second, if you have it listed as payment is due within 24 hours and you did not get it, then you need to email the winning bidder and inform them that since they have not done as the bidding instructions said, you are cancelling their bid so they will not be getting the item. Then you notify the person who had the 2nd place bid and tell them that the winning bidder defaulted so if they want the item they can have it for their last bid. Yes if they are owned by the same company, which I m pretty sure they are, they will all go bankrupt. Remember Chapter 11 bankruptcy doesn t mean they are out of business, just that they must restructure. Regardless of what happens, it is already obvious that bondholders are about to trade debt for equity, which will happen regardless.The problem I see, is YRC has a huge network which is losing revenue and volume at a much faster pace than the rest of the industry. Most of the non union carriers are still profitable, and have lost much less revenue. YRC is losing so much volume so fast, it is going to be very difficult for them to right size the company to a profitable level. Especially with the long term union contracts I m sure they have. At the current level of revenue, they would probably have to get rid of 30%-40% of the company to be profitable. I am in the process of starting a bookkeeping business and am having trouble deciding what I want to do about software. The companies that I ll be doing the bookkeeping for will be rather small, and won t have much need for anything more than a basic bookkeeping software with maybe the capability to do payroll. Some of these small businesses will have attempted to do the bookkeeping on their own but have for some reason decided to outsource. Since they may have tried to do the bookkeeping, they may have purchased software to use such as Quickbooks, Peachtree, Quicken, etc. There s no way for me to predict what software they will have and I m trying not to buy each version just so that I can transfer files. I would much rather use Quickbooks for all of my clients. Now, I don t need Quickbooks Accountant software because my clients will not also be using the software, only I will. If I buy one of the basic versions of Quickbooks like I mentioned before, can I just have it set up to where I ll have numerous company files. I d create a new company each time I take on a new client and input the bookkeeping information they may have from before manually. I know you can create more than one company file in Quickbooks, but I don t know if there s a limit on how many you can create. So can I actually have those numerous company files, plus my own for keeping the books of my business, in that one program? If so, does anyone know how many companies you can create a file for in Quickbooks (or Peachtree, Quicken, etc.) without having to purchase a license for multiple users. And if not, does anyone have suggestions on what I can do.I have a degree in Accounting and about 6 years of experience doing bookkeeping (4 years in Quickbooks) so I do know what I m doing but with each previous employer, they only had their one company file created and I never looked to see how many companies you could actually create. where?i want to come!umm... getting the money would be hard... cos of investment being quite low etc... umm... loans and stuff are an option, but if u fail, u ll be in debt big time!i assume u ve thought of all that though.to get bands to play there u ll need to just surf through myspace pages etc finding metal bands within a certain distance of ur venue and then contact them and see from there. i m sure loads of young up and coming bands will oblige!to open ur venue u ll need to raise awareness through an advertising campaign... use a lot of word of mouth and post it on facebook and myspace etc as a group/event whatever!the one problem is that u ll need a way to stop all these crazy metalheads getting out of hand! i suggest more than one room, obvious i suppose.but u ll need rooms for everything... bands, equipment, coats (haha!), drinks... etc etcumm... or why not have this venue outdoors, like with a stage etc, so its like a gig every night (infact, thats a pretty cool slogan!) have a sheltered part too. i find lock-up tents are pretty hectic when the metal is pumping! have different themed nights etc (thats all obvious stuff...)free water (everywhere), sell alcohol (obviously) and consider any legal highs u can!setting up a mosh pit place... umm... there ll be some legal thing with that for sure... like, dont encourage it cos its dangerous and all that bullshit... so u could either let it happen, or just have raised platforms around the edges of ur venue so the moshing can go on down between them, like an actual pit! but just like the standing section really! but people will want to get down there to get close to the bands and stuff!dont have seats on all of ur raised bits, just a few on some more remote ones, for the chill and rest and DRINK! haha!and if u can get a venue going that can do all that stuff and still play METAL a lot, u will get some serious interest! but i d consider opening up to other types of music, seriously, cos otherwise u wont get loads of business! so theme nights, like metal, drum and bass, dance, whatever and standard club nights etc... but keep it hectic! no soft, chilled music! u want ur place to be known for its hardcore atmosphere, its non-stop sweat party, etc. definately get the hoses and foam etc...u ll basically just need to come up with a very good pitch and business sceme to put to investors and/or banks etc and really work out where and/or IF there is a good interest for this!i think it d be sick! and now i dont want to post this cos i like my ideas too much! but hey, i aint got no money either!

You have to use all the tools life has given and investigate any way to get a loan or a small business loan. Work out a deal with your bank. Raise money. Whatever it takes. As far as getting bands to play you could ask around or look up your local metal bands. Those bands always know other bands through networking and trust me their always looking for a place to play. If you keep busy and make lots of friends you could make it happen. There are not enough heavy metal venues anyways! Good luck!

If you live in a place with a lot of neighbors, it just might be easy. First, find out if your local newspaper will allow you to deliver papers. This can be good work because it is regular with a regular paycheck. The may require permissions from your parent/s and also from your school. Ask about the job with the newspaper first. Delivery of papers requires space to bundle them or wrap them in rain-resistant bags at your home. It also requires transportation like a bike with a bag or a wagon, if the customers are not too spread apart. If you know of elderly people nearby who can t get out to shop, you could introduce yourself and ask if you could do their grocery shopping, and ask if they can afford you at $10 a trip. You will have to demonstrate that you know how to follow directions in shopping, not take too long, have a way to carry or bike the groceries. If you got a few such customers, that could be regular income. If people want or need your help due to physical difficulties, be sure to offer bringing their paper to their hands as an extra service that you provide as a courtesy. If their letterbox is also a bit far to walk to, make the same offer so you are lightening the load of any disability. (Don t get greedy, though, by charging for every little thing.) If you have the basic supplies, like borrowing them from your family, ask your neighbors if you could wash their car for them at a time convenient for them. Either bring your supplies to their car, or, if you have a driveway nearby or a parking lot you have permission to use, set up shop there. (Make sure you only use soft brushes and soft cloths, since people would be angry if you scratch their car s paint.) I think 5 to $10 is the most you could charge. If you have a helper, you can do cars faster, so the price can remain the same. If your neighborhood has trees that drop too many leaves on lawns and streets, offer your neighbors the service of sweeping them all up and either bundling them for city pickup, or putting them in collections bins. Some people will be concerned only with their lawn. You ll need at least a rake, and maybe an old sheet to collect leaves in, if the homeowner provides a bin to put the debris in. Don t discard your only sheet. Notice that some people with a lot of land want their lawn cuttings to go into a bare area so the dry grass fertilizers bare ground. Take note if the customers could use that service. For the street, you ll need a big broom, maybe a push broom. Your charge should depend upon the size of the job and how much time the job takes you. Better to charge too little than too much and not get customers. If it s too little, after you realize that, ask for more from (and tell the new price to) the next customers. (Don t go back to the prior customers.) If you notice some neighbors are into gardening, ask if you helped do their weeding, could you earn some money? So that your technique does not upset anyone, ask them to show you how THEY identify weeds and where they want you to put them. Don t assume everyone regards all weeds the same way. Grocery delivery for a very small neighborhood store is also a possibility,unless nosy neighbors seem bothered by your working while so young. The wage will be very very little, but some homemakers with tip you. See if the store will provide the bike or wagon. A store that realizes this service pleases customers will probably encourage you to deliver several orders at once, with a box ox- or basket-quipped bike. Any neighborhood idea that is a small purchase for the customer(s) can be something whose income you don t need to worry might be taxable. The IRS rarely troubles teens with simple ideas.

How about running a competition in your area through your local newspapers, or with local secondary schools/colleges etc to get all the locals to come up with a name.That way you get free PR in the local newspapers, school/college newsletters etc both announcing the competition in the first place and then announcing the winner, perhaps with a photo of you handing the competition winner their prize (which doesn t have to be expensive - how about an MP3 player for a tenner?) and if you get photographed with the winning name/logo being held up too then it gets it in front of people right from the start. then once they start to see your business up and running they will already be familiar with the logo/name etc and your business will have instant credibility.This is just an idea - adapt it at will!This will not only get you a name for the business but also promote it and let people know you are out there.Good luck with the new business. Your dad is correct, and it is military time. You just subtract 4 from the number. Military time is 24 hours instead of house normal clocks/time is split into 2 twelve hour blocks of time am/pm.

Good question. It s a question that many people in the music business for years have been asking themselves too. I would avoid any business that is tied to the sale of masters (the actual recordings). If you can raise some money there is still money in music publishing because there are more synchronization opportunities than ever before (placing music in film, tv etc) but there are also more people vying for those placements than ever before. There is still money in touring and music merchandise (tee shirts, keychains etc) so that makes starting a music merch company possible and or being a club promoter / booking agent etc workable.There is also a never ending group of musicians who need help getting their music heard and placed but this group tends not to have the deepest pockets.Forgive me that wasn t much of an answer but will hopefully give you something to think about.Very best of luck,Rick

opening a record shop. there s one near me that could do so well, but its on a tiny street so no one even knows it exists. i only know of it because i happened to get lost when i was trying to find the tattoo parlour (which i never did find lol). anyway, lots of people still collect them and they can sell for a lot o money. so i would definatly recommend that. then you could expand the business by having a tattoo and piercing parlour out back. or have a cafe within the shop thats music themed. or you could turn the upstairs into a small music venue. something like that.help with my business plan please?? its on my questions on my profile. i cant post links lol :):)
